The warmth of brass
Brass sits naturally beside timber, stone and warmer interiors. Its golden colour makes finely engraved dark lines feel especially rich. Uncoated brass can darken and develop a patina; a coating changes its care needs, so always follow the instructions for the actual finish.
Brushed or polished stainless steel
Brushed stainless steel has a fine grain that softens reflections. Polished stainless steel is more reflective. Grade, finish, environment and maintenance all matter, especially outdoors.
Think about where it will live
A plaque on an indoor shelf has different demands from one on an exposed coastal wall. Before choosing, note whether the location is indoors or out, sheltered or exposed, and what the plaque will be fixed to. We can discuss those details with the proof.
Let the portrait guide you
If you are unsure, choose the metal you are drawn to for your initial sketch and tell us you would like advice. The final material and mounting specification should be clear in your quote before you pay.
Further material guidance: British Stainless Steel Association and Outokumpu. Always follow instructions for the finished plaque.
