A soft cloth is a good beginning
For routine dusting, use a clean, soft cloth. If the supplied instructions allow damp cleaning, use a mild cleaning solution, remove residue and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and strong household chemicals.
Be careful with brass polish
Brass polish is not suitable for every plaque. A lacquered surface or filled engraving may need a different method. Do not polish until the finish and the appropriate product have been confirmed.
Follow the grain on brushed stainless steel
Use a soft cloth and gentle movements in the direction of the grain. Avoid steel wool and carbon-steel brushes, which can leave contamination. Rinse off any permitted cleaner and dry to reduce water marks.
Check outdoor fixings
Periodically check that the mounting remains secure. Clean away dirt and deposits according to the care instructions. Coastal salt, exposure and contact with other metals can affect performance, so confirm the specification for the intended location.
Further material guidance: British Stainless Steel Association and Outokumpu. Always follow instructions for the finished plaque.
