Start with the familiar.
For a full-body portrait, choose a clear side or three-quarter view with the hooves and ears visible. If the plaque is for a stable or garden, include its intended location with your request.

Head portrait or full horse
A head portrait brings the expression and facial markings forward. A full-body portrait can show the horse’s stance and outline, but needs a photograph with the hooves, ears and tail in view. Send the original image and tell us which details make the horse recognisable to you.
Stable name and registered name
A short stable name can be the main line, with the registered name beneath. For a memorial, add dates or a personal dedication. For a living horse, leave out remembrance wording. The complete sketch lets you compare how a longer name fits alongside the portrait.
Plan the fixing position
For a stable door or wall, measure the available space and consider how the door moves. Include a photo of the intended position if useful. Exposure to rain, cleaning products and contact with animals affects the choice of finish and mounting; these details should be agreed before manufacture.
