Begin with their name

Use the name you said every day. A formal name, a family nickname or a stable name can all be right. Dates are optional, and so is a heading such as “In loving memory”.

Dog memorial plaque wording

A dog’s name and years can sit above a sentence about their place in your life. These are illustrative inscriptions; all names and dates are examples, ready to be replaced with your own.

Ordinary details can make the wording personal: a sunny windowsill, a favourite chair or the sound of them coming home. Keep the dedication in sentences that read naturally.

• Lily 2011 – 2025 A much-loved part of our family. Your place in the sunshine will always remind us of you.
• In memory of Thomas 2008 – 2024 Sixteen years of quiet company and a home that was always yours. With love from all your family.

Horse memorial and stable wording

Give the stable name the main position if that is the name you use every day. A registered name can appear below it. A stable plaque for a living horse does not need dates or remembrance wording.

• Willow Meadowbrook Willow Song 2001 – 2025 A trusted partner and much-loved friend. Thank you for all the years we shared.
• Bramble Oakfield Morning Light A favourite face at the stable door. Part of our family since 2018.

Memorial wording for a loved one

You can include a relationship, a familiar phrase or a complete message from the family. A longer dedication deserves enough room; the full proof lets you see how it works with the portrait.

• In loving memory of Margaret Anne Wilson 1942 – 2024 A much-loved mother and grandmother. Remembered with gratitude for a lifetime of love and kindness.
• David Robert Evans 18 March 1951 – 6 November 2023 A loving husband, father and friend. Your humour and kindness remain in the lives of everyone who knew you.

A layout for longer inscriptions

Begin with the complete message you want to say. We can group the name, dates and dedication, or place the text beside a portrait. Compare the full A5, A4 or A3 layout before shortening a message that matters. Line breaks should follow the meaning of the words rather than split a name or leave a single word stranded.

Read it slowly before you approve

Check every name and date in the proof, including punctuation and spelling. Read the inscription aloud. Shorter wording often gives the portrait more space, but we can discuss layout before you decide.
