Describe the intended location
Tell us whether the plaque will be on an indoor wall, beneath a porch, on a stable door or exposed in a garden. Note direct rain, strong sun, coastal salt and cleaning products used nearby. A photograph of the surface and a measurement of the available space help make the specification more useful.
Confirm the finished specification
Brass and stainless steel names alone do not establish suitability for every outdoor setting. Grade, coating, finish and maintenance affect how a plaque will perform. Confirm these for the actual plaque and location before ordering. Do not treat an illustrative garden scene as evidence of a tested outdoor installation.
Consider the backing separately
The wooden board is an optional part of the design. A metal face suitable for a particular environment does not automatically make every backing board suitable too. Ask about the timber, finish, exposed edges and how moisture will be managed. Confirm the board’s overall dimensions as well as the metal-face size.
Agree the fixings and cover caps
We favour small matching screw cover caps for a neat finish where the installation allows. The screws, plugs and fixing method still need to suit the surface and plaque weight. A brick wall, timber door and freestanding support have different needs. Confirm what is supplied, the hole positions and who will install it; this guide is not an installation specification.
Check permission and the surrounding space
For a shared garden, cemetery, public bench or managed stable, check the owner’s rules before ordering. There may be limits on dimensions, materials, wording or attachment methods. On a moving door, consider its full movement and the position of handles, hinges and other fittings.
Keep the proof and care instructions together
At approval, check the portrait and wording alongside the material, dimensions, backing and mounting details in the quote. Keep the finished-plaque care instructions. Inspect the installation periodically and seek advice if a fixing loosens or the surface changes; avoid applying a polish or cleaner until it is confirmed suitable for the finish.
